Originating from the plateau of Asiago from which it takes its name. There are two types of Asiago: Asiago Pressato and Asiago d’Allevo, both covered by the Standards of Production of the Consortium of Protection for DOP production, which was obtained in 1996. Montasio cheese takes its name from the Friuli plateau in the Julian Alps at 1500 metres. Production spread all over the Carnia area and since 1996, when it was certified DOP, it has been exclusive to the region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, the provinces of Belluno and Treviso and part of the provinces of Padua and Venice.
